Our Homestead Journey
As a little girl, I have always dreamed of being a veterinarian, owning a farm and living in a certain nearby town.
The years pressed on and even though my career landed on a different path, I knew that I could still find a way to work with animals and achieve my dream as a farm owner.
When I met Pete, he coincidentally lived in my dream farm town, owned property, and he had a love for the outdoors. As we began our relationship and built its foundation, we discovered we had similar goals for the future. We wanted land and a place to have a homestead.
Now homesteading is a term that means something different to everyone! To us it means to eat what we grow or raise, preserve our food and to get back to simple skills of sewing, building, cooking from scratch, etc. So when the world shut down, we had the time and attention to spend at the property. For us, that meant creating our 1200 sq ft garden, planting our fruit orchard, harvesting our grown food and getting a feel for what it would be like if we were to move out there full time. Thankfully our mindset and drive has continued as the world has gone back to normal and we are still continuing to learn the ins and the outs of homesteading.
In the last 2 years, we have added sourdough, sauerkraut, and bone broth to our growing list of things we have learned and they will be joining our pickles, dilly beans, pickled banana peppers, butter, raw milk, beeswax wraps, etc in our home. Our dream is to build in the near future on the property and be there full time. Once that goal is achieved, we can bring animals to the homestead to nourish us and provide companionship.
